A big thank you to Mr. Palma for fixing our rolling chart! It works great!
Just a reminder that tomorrow we are walking to Skyzone for our class party. Remember to bring a sack lunch and wear good walking shoes with socks.
All are welcome to join us!
On Wednesday is the Volunteer Breakfast at 7:30 am and our AR goal party. (more info to come)
On Thursday, my youngest son is graduating from High School and we will have a sub that day.
On Friday, is our last Haber Mall.
Monday, June 10th is the last day of school…. Report Cards will be handed out and our Family lunch is at 12:00 noon. I am also allowing students to bring games to play on that day… electronics are welcome.
I sent home a parent questionnaire with the homework packet that I hope everyone has seen. Please take the time to fill it out and send it back in. No names are required.
Also, there is a GATE survey for parents that is coming home on Tuesday. If you could get that in by Friday, the district will be happy.
We are almost done! It’s been a great year!
Dear Parents and Students,
We are entering into our final weeks and have a needle project that the students are working on. It is a picture frame and many of the students are almost done.
In order to completely finish the project they will need to bring in a 4×6 picture to place in the frame. Unfortunately I am completely out of black ink for my printer (HP365) so I can not print any pictures at this time from school.
Please allow them to select a picture to use for the project. They look wonderful!
Furthermore, I have a “memory book” that I have done in thepast years for the students, however I will need some help getting it copied and assembled, otherwise I won’t be able to do it this year. If you have some time, please see me by Friday, May 24th for the directions and materials. Thank you in advance for your time and effort.
Just a reminder that I am taking the students to Skyzone on June 4th for a end of the year reward. I need all forms, permission slips and $10 entrance fee by May 31st or your child may not participate. This is an optional event, however I would like to atleast take every child with us and enjoy being off campus whether they jump or not.
Reminder that our Talent Show is Thursday, May 23rd in the evening and we have two students from our class in the show. Come see a great event! Tickets are on sale!
If anyone would like to plan a end of the year lunch on our last day of school, Monday June 10th your are more than welcome. I don’t plan on taking the students off campus on that day.
My quarterly AR party will be on Wednesday, June 5th at lunch. I might need some help with that event. We haven’t decide on the treat yet……
A lot going on. Keep reading my posts to get all the info!
We need a carpenter for a very small job in room 502. One of the legs on my rolling chart cracked off. It needs a new piece of wood and the wheels replaced.
Can anyone help? I am available after school, before school, even on a weekend. You are welcome to take the chart home and bring it back at a later date. The work does not have to be done on campus.
I can put in an order for it to be fixed…. but I would not get it back for atleast 6 months…. Would rather take care of it myself.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers of room 502! Hope you are having a great day.
I want to explain some of the papers that came home on Friday:
The students in room 502 have earned another compliment paperclip chain and have voted on a reward. They would like to walk to “Skyzone” and have lunch as a fieldtrip.
I contacted the company and made arrangements for us to go on Tuesday, June 4th. I am sorry if this date conflicts with any other events, but it works for us at school and for the company.
I negotiated a better group rate of $10 for one hour of jumping (normally $10 for 30 minutes)
I would love some parents to come with us to help chaperone. Sign up or email me.
In order for your child to participate, Skyzone requires a release of risk waiver. I sent home the permission slip (needed to walk off campus) and the waiver for you to fill out. These forms and the cost of $10 is due back by May 31st or before.
Students can jump “barefoot” or wear the companies special shoes. (no cost to use shoes)
Everyone will bring a sack lunch with them for afterwards. There are treats to purchase at Skyzone.
If you prefer for your child not to jump… they can still go with us and bring an activity (book, cards, needle work) into the facility and watch, then walk to lunch and walk back to school. It will be fun just to be off campus.
10:45 – Leave school and walk to Skyzone
11:30 check in at Skyzone
12:00 -1:00 Enjoy the activity
1:00 – leave Skyzone and walk to lunch area
1:00 -1:45 eat a sack lunch (drinks can be purchased or brought)
1:45 – walk back to school
2:45 – dismissal
I hope that works out to a great experience… it looks like fun.
Our testing is going very well. The students are doing great! Thank you for the snacks!
I am sending home a 4th grade science book with every 5th grader so that they can review for their Science portion of the CST on Friday and Monday. I really recommend that they review basic concepts and reread topics they are not familiar with.
I am not going to have a booth at the Multicultural Fair this year, however we will attend. Flyers are going home tomorrow in case you would like to volunteer in another booth. The more involvement… the better. The Fair is May 17th.
If you are attending my Sacramento Trip, please make sure that you send in your Emergency Forms and your order for the lunch on May 19th. (pink paper). Don’t forget that we have a very important meeting on May 13th at 6pm in room 502.
All is well in Room 502!
CST testing starts tomorrow.
Thank you to all those families that agreed to send in some snacks for the kids.
My room will be open at 7:45am for snacks to be dropped off. The students will be able to come in from 8:00 -8:15am to share the snack, then it will be cleaned up.
PLEASE make sure that your child has had a good night sleep, and has eaten a protein breakfast before coming to school….. do not count on the snack as breakfast.
Also, try to avoid any arguing, fighting, or bad words among the household. You would be surprised as to what the students are thinking about instead of concentrating on the exam. On the other hand, assure your child that this test is only one of many in their academic career.
Reviewing the release questions and blog game sites are a great way to prepare.
I know that all of my students will do their best on this exam!
See you tomorrow.
Just a reminder that the 4th graders are going on a Field Trip Monday, April 22, 2013 from 9 am – 2 pm.
From our class we have Mrs. Schaelen and Mrs. Adams attending. We will also have four other parents with us from Mrs. Escamilla’s class.
Everyone is to bring a lunch that is easy to carry so that everyone can carry their own. We will be doing a lot of walking and there are a lot of stairs to navigate so hands must be free.
Wear layers and shoes appropriate for the weather.
Thank you for the great response for snacks for CST testing. Please coordinate with Mrs. Higuera about what to bring in.
On Tuesday, April 16th the Fourth Graders will have a wonderful presentation about the Gold Rush from 12:45 -2:30. I could really use some help around 1:30 with the panning for gold. If you are available, please just stop on by!
The O’Keefe Art group will be presenting on Tuesday April 16th at 8:30 am.
Reminder that the permission slips and $7 cost is due by April 18th for the 4th grade fieldtrip to the MIdway which is on Monday, April 22nd from 9 am – 2 pm. My 5th graders will spend the day with Mrs. Escamilla.
I will be out due to family obligations on Thursday, Friday and Monday…. but I will be back on Tuesday, bright and early and a little jet lagged 😦
Thank you for your support….. We are nearly done and I expect that my students will do very well on their end of the year assessments. Keep supporting that reading!
All fourth grade students will have the opportunity to go on a field trip to the USS Midway on April 22nd. The cost of the trip will be $7, which includes entrance and transportation. Cash Only!
Our classroom is allowed four chaperones at no cost. If you are interested in being a chaperone for our class, please let me know as soon as possible. I may have to do a lottery if I have too many volunteers. If you are not picked to chaperone for our class and would still like to attend, you would have to pay the full price of $10 for the adult entrance and provide your own transportation. Parking at the peer is $8 a spot for 4 hours.
Thank you for your cooperation. Permission slips are going home today! and are due back by April 18th with the donation. No permission slip… no trip.
I’m back in the classroom today setting things up for your return tomorrow. A couple of things that I want the parents to start planning for and thinking about:
1. The students asked me about doing a “Haber Mall” before we went out on break and we just didn’t have time. I found some time this Friday, April 5th. Please remember that students are not to “sell” anything of value and all trinkets should be approved by the parents before they are “sold”. Students do not have to sell or buy. This is just one way to use the class currency.
2. 5th graders are going on the Sea Lab fieldtrip on Monday, April 8th. James, Zach and Hanna must be here at 7:15am for the morning trip and the rest are going on the afternoon trip and won’t be back until around 5:30pm. Students go with their SCIENCE CLASSMATES.
3. For my 4th graders we will be having a Gold Rush Presentation on April 16th from 12:45 -2:30pm and I will need 4 parents helping with the panning for gold. If you are interested in helping on that day, please let me know and make arrangements.
4. We have a 4th grade fieldtrip planned for Monday, April 22nd to the Midway for a science presentation and tour. The trip is from 8:30am – 2:00pm. Please start thinking if you would like to volunteer to join us and make those arrangements. More information about cost will be coming this week.
Enjoy your last day!
